Karl Nieghorn attended Ridley College in Saint Catharine’s before entering UTS in 1910. He was still a student when he enlisted in the Royal Flying Corps in September 1917, training at Long Branch during the autumn and, during the winter, in Texas, where he demonstrated a remarkable talent for aerial gunnery. In March 1918 he went overseas and had only recently completed his training when he suffered a fatal accident. Nieghorn is buried in Andover Cemetery in England.
